This course will involve an in-depth examination of the relationship between law and psychology through dissemination of the literature. Students will gain an understanding of and evaluate the contribution of psychological theories and research to the criminal and civil justice system. Students will learn the psychology-law relationship through topics such as witness competency, criminal responsibility, malingering, false memory, child witnesses, family violence, risk assessment and expert testimony. This course will also include discussions of forensic psychology in relation to the judicial system and law in Taiwan.
